German wehrpass of Wilhelm Schmidt, born on 28 May 1895. His father died in 1894 (probably during his wife's pregnancy) and his mother died in 1911.

Wilhelm joined the army in 1915 during the First World War, where he served in various infantry regiments. During the First World War he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class and the Ehrenkreuz fur Frontkampfer.

This wehrpass also includes a destination booklet from the First World War. This booklet is also in Wilhelm's name and states, among other things, that he joined infantry regiment 25 in 1915 and that he continued in the army until 1918 (the end of WW1) and after the war. It states that his leadership is good and that he has never been punished. There is a note in the booklet with dates from 19-10-1915 to 04-11-1917 and where he was at that time. It is difficult to read but I assume from the date and the vaguely readable handwriting that he was also present at the battle of the Somme. Unfortunately there is little information about his service in the Second World War.
